The dermatologists’ general tips for skin care can be beneficial to everyone.

  1. Use sunscreen before going outside every day. The closest we can get to a fountain is sunscreen. It can really slow down the ageing of the skin. It can help prevent skin cancer. Choose a sunscreen with broad spectrum protection, an SPF of 30 or higher (or even higher), and that is water-resistant.
The AAD recommends that children 6 months of age and older only apply sunscreen.
  2. Don’t smoke. Smoking accelerates the ageing of your skin. Smoking will also make your wounds heal slower. Smoking can worsen skin conditions such as psoriasis, hidradenitis purpurativa and psoriasis.

  3. Check your skin for skin cancer. Self-examinations of the skin can detect skin cancer at an early stage when it is highly treatable. Make an appointment with a dermatologist if you notice that a particular spot is different from others or that it changes itch or bleeds.

  4. If you want to look tanned, use a self-tanner. You prematurely age the skin when you tan, whether you do it indoors or outdoors. Also, you increase your chances of developing skin cancer. Self-tanners can help you achieve the desired look without any risks. Even when you use a self-tanner, it is important to protect your skin from the sun.

  5. Skin care products should be chosen according to your skin type. What is your skin type? Is it oily, normal, combination or sensitive? Have you ever had a skin problem? Use products that are formulated to meet your skin’s specific needs. This will make your skin feel and look its best.

  6. Refrain from scrubbing your skin. It may feel natural to wash the skin if you have been sweating or are experiencing severe acne. Don’t! Scrubbing can irritate your skin and worsen acne.

  7. Wash your face before going to bed and after you sweat. When you wash your face and awaken, the dirt and bacteria on your skin that settle while sleeping are removed. You should remove any makeup or grime that may have been on your face, including smog, dirt, smoke and cigarette smoke.

  8. Wash your face gently. Skin looks its best when it is cleansed gently. Wet your face with warm water to cleanse it gently. Apply a mild cleanser using your fingertips in a gentle circular motion. Then, rinse off the cleanser completely and pat your face with a clean cloth.

  9. Stress less. Stress management can also benefit your skin. Stress can cause some skin conditions, like psoriasis or atopic (eczema), to appear for the very first time. Stress can cause flare-ups in many skin conditions, including acne, eczema and rosacea.

  10. If you have any concerns about your skin, consult a dermatologist who is board-certified. Dermatologists are experts when it comes to skin. These doctors can diagnose and treat a wide range of skin conditions. These doctors also possess the expertise to rejuvenate skin and care for it safely.
