You may be tempted to buy skin care products after hearing friends, celebrities, and influencers rave about them. Some of them can cause your skin to be sore and even cause pimples or rashes. These products can be expensive.

Try these 10 simple skin-care habits and save money.

1. Hands-on cleansing with warm, soapy water and mild soap. This should be done once or twice daily. Scrubbing your skin can worsen acne by irritating the pores and skin.

2. Choose a moisturizer without a scent that is right for your skin type. For example, choose a cream or gel for oily, normal, or dry skin. Try an oil-free moisturizing cream if you are prone to acne.

3. Wear sunscreen daily, even if it’s overcast. Wear sunglasses that offer almost 100% protection from ultraviolet (UV) and a hat.

Both light and dark skin are susceptible to sunburn. Avoid tanning outdoors and avoid tanning booths.

4. Let pimples be. Squeezing them could lead to more swelling. This can also lead to scabs, and you may end up with permanent scars or pits. Acne marks that are reddish, brownish or blackish after the pimples have healed usually fade without needing treatment.

5. To avoid makeup germs, you should clean your makeup brushes and sponges at least once a week. Do not share your makeup or brushes with others. Make sure you remove your makeup before bed.

6. Sleep is important for your skin. Stress can cause breakouts if people are not getting enough sleep. This can cause skin to become blotchy and the undereye circles to darken. Sleep for 8-10 hours every night.

7. Stress can worsen skin conditions such as acne and eczema. Relax with yoga or meditation.

8. Exercise is good for the skin. It can improve your sleep and reduce stress.

9. Healthy food is best. Fried or sugary foods (like fast food) can cause your skin to break out. Include the following in your meals:

  • Lean proteins (such as fish, chicken or beans)
  • Fruits and vegetables
  • Whole grains (like brown rice or whole wheat bread)

10. Avoid smoking. It robs the skin of moisture and can cause wrinkles (even if they are not yet visible).

Ask your doctor for a mild acne treatment. If you have severe acne or any other skin condition, such as eczema or dermatitis, consult your doctor or dermatologist.
